Gerry Knight practices in the areas of real estate law, land use law, and administrative and governmental law. Mr. Knight represents land developers, builders and other business clients in connection with real estate transactions, land use matters, and administrative law matters at the state, regional, and local levels. Mr. Knight has represented land developers in connection with obtaining comprehensive plan amendments, rezonings, variances, conditional use approvals, special exceptions, subdivision plat approvals and site plan approvals. He has also been involved in obtaining Development of Regional Impact (DRI) development orders and binding letters of interpretation for major land development projects. Mr. Knight also acts as special counsel to local governmental agencies, including community development districts.
He is a former Assistant Attorney General of Florida; Assistant General Counsel of Broward County; and Assistant City Attorney of the City of Fort Lauderdale. He was formerly a partner at Gustafson, Stephens, Ferris, Forman & Knight, P.A., and at Holland & Knight LLP.
Mr. Knight is a member of The Florida Bar, Local Government Law and Environmental and Land Use Law Sections; the American Bar Association, Urban, State and Local Government Law Section; the Broward County Bar Association; Bars of the United States Supreme Court and United States Courts of Appeals, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits. He is also a member of the Colorado Bar. Mr. Knight is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Order of the Coif, and has received highest rating assigned by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.
Mr. Knight earned his B.A., with honors, and his J.D., with honors, from the University of Florida. He also earned his LL.M in real estate law from the University of Miami.
